2019 San Antonio's Outstanding Teen, Abby Roper

Abby Roper is an 8th grader within the Northside ISD in San Antonio, Texas. An "A" honors student, Abby is a also a member of the National Junior Honors Society.  She enjoys theater and has previously won the Award of Excellence in the UIL District Theater Competition.  Abby also finds time to participate in her school's basketball and track teams.

An avid history buff, she is often seen reading historical fiction or books about American History.  Abby also enjoys writing; her last essay was awarded the UIL District Writing Award.

Always one to try new things, Abby taught herself to play the ukulele by watching YouTube videos!  She enjoys singing, horseback riding, jewelry making, and hanging out with her friends.

Abby has enjoyed leadership positions in school clubs and organizations such as Aue Journalism Club, 4-H, and Student Council.  She hopes to one day use her leadership skills to make a difference in this country.

She also leads a weekly small group girls study through her church.

Through her platform, Healing Through Horses, Abby would aspire to spread the message about the healing benefits of horses to all kids.  Her focus would be to get kids off their technology and and encourage them to be outdoors working with horses.  San Antonio area kids have a refuge like this available to them at Hidden Springs Youth Ranch where she currently volunteers as a mentor and youth leader.  Her love of animals includes more than just horses.  Abby and her family often foster dogs and puppies through SNIPSA.
