Official Preliminary to Miss Texas and Miss America Scholarship Competitions

2019 Miss Bexar County, Pratyusha Pilla

Pratyusha is a student at UIW's School of Medicine with a Bachelors in Science from the University of Texas and a Masters in Science from the UNT Health Science Center.  Her biggest passion is mental health awareness and she has based her platform "Here for You" on her experience in dealing with depression.  She is a Delta Gamma in the San Antonio Alumna chapter.  Alongside advocacy, she is so proud to have a published TEDx talk on the issue of colorism.

It is such an incredible feeling to call San Antonio her home.  She moved to the city in the summer of 2017 with her puppy.  They've spent the year exploring, hiking by Medina river, and studying (of course).  Being in a place where people embrace their heritage so openly has inspired her to do the same - it's why she performed Kuchipudi at the pageant!  She cannot thank this city enough for allowing her to take part in celebrating its rich culture and history.

The most exciting thing about her year will be serving the southside of San Antonio.  She lives in an area that struggles with poverty, crime and a lack of resources.  The local school district is actually in a food desert.  This community has broadened her horizons and placed so many beautiful souls in her life.  She never expected to fall in love with a community so fast and so fiercely.  She plans to serve them to the best of her ability.

Bexar County is so much more than the Riverwalk and Seaworld.  She cannot wait to share the unique and beautiful parts of San Antonio as a local titleholder, from Morgan's Wonderland to Haven for Hope to Fiesta.  More importantly, she is honored to have this title and the opportunity to make a difference in her very own neighborhood.
