Miss San Antonio Summary:

21 year-old Kay Kelfer played the piano in the dark due to a technical foul-up in the lighting system during the Miss San Antonio pageant and still managed to win the talent competition.

Since being crowned Miss San Antonio 1978, Kay is now a Cum Laude graduate of Trinity University with a B.A. in Music and a B.A in Elementary Education.  She was elected into the Mortar Board, Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, Blue Key, and the honor society for educators.  On academic scholarship at Trinity, she served as co-captain of the cheerleading squad and also was elected a Student Senator.

After graduating, she taught in Alamo Heights, Richardson, and Dallas school districts, and began to study at the University of Dallas on scholarship until deciding to stay home with her four children.

While homeschooling her own children, she started and ran Olympic Dreams Academy for aspiring gymnastics athletes in Beaumont.  She then started, ran and taught at her own school, Homeschool on the Lake.  After six years at Homeschool on the Lake, she helped start, taught at, and was interim principal at Veritas Classical Academy.

Throughout the years, she also was church pianist at several churches and taught piano privately.  She also worked with youth through Youth for Christ and other Christian ministries, including two summers in Germany and two trips to Russia.

Kay owned her own photography business; Kay Bridges Photography.  After a 3-year battle with cancer, she is not retired and enjoys travel, photography, and music.
