As you already know, I’m very involved with the Miss America Organization but you probably didn’t know that one of the exciting opportunities this organization offers is the chance to raise funds for local children’s hospitals through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The money I raise will help save children’s lives, and a portion will also go to support the Miss America Scholarship Fund.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals makes sure that donated funds stay local which means that your donation helps kids and families right here in our community. I invite you to join me in touching the lives of sick and injured children today, by clicking the "Donate Now" button to make a secure donation. You can also see the impact of your donation by clicking here to view some of the incredible miracle stories from kids we've helped. These are just a few stories out of millions of kids treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals each year.

Thank you so much for your support and for helping me make miracles happen!

Portland Tidwell

Portland is a 17 year old senior attending St.Anthony Catholic High School.  Her Ambition is to obtain a secondary degree and continue her education in Public Relations and Communications.

She is involved in many activities on and off campus.  In many leadership roles, you can find Portland as a lead mentor for character acting and understudy involved in theater and drama.  She is an Entrepreneur, who owns and operates “Pretty Princess Portland”, a singing princess business where she attends birthday parties as the birthday girl's favorite princess.  Portland also donates many hours to children's hospitals and fundraising events.  She is the Founder of Cinderella's Closet set up to collect and gather gently used formal dresses, along with shoes and even make-up.  Portland brings theses items to a Title 1 high school and passes out these donations to young ladies that would otherwise not be able to attend their prom.

She's had many accomplishments thus far including winning the Spanish award in art category, being a cheerleader, music ministry and cantor, best supporting actress award for Texas Private and Parochial Schools, cast member of the community theater and inducted into the National Thespian Society.

Portland's favorite point of the Miss America crown is Service.  She has obtained over 256 community services hours in 2016 / 2017 and is very passionate about her platform - Club C 100% Caring for 100% Courage.

C, the Roman numeral for 100, for the over 100 first responders who have made a choice to risk their lives for the safety of others.  Club C is in direct partnership with the San Antonio 100 Club.

The sole purpose of the 100 Club is to serve the families of fallen local, state and federal law enforcement officers and firefighters in Bexar County.  The membership is citizen-based and 100% of the annual fee is directly applied to the fallen family and survivor’s fund, making it immediately available for disbursement.  Portland feels that It is imperative that our first responders feel assured that their families will be taken care of in the event they are called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice.  Successful recruitment is dependent on knowledge and awareness.  Club C will hold informational meetings in cities and counties around Texas and aid in the process of building and opening chapters across the state.  Club C will visit schools and talk to students about the care and courage first responders demonstrate as a part of their profession.  Club C will educate students on the importance of showing respect and appreciation to the profession and encourage them to become involved at a young age and carry that through as adults, perhaps a 100 Club chapter is in their future.

Club C feels strongly that fundraising is an essential part in the success of all 100 Club chapters. Without funds the ability to help families left behind isn’t possible so actively and aggressively finding sponsors, holding fund raisers and growing membership in existing chapters is crucial.  Portland is also a proud member of the Canary Islanders Descent Association (CIDA).

Most recently Portland was nominated for Student of the Year by Karen Grace, Kens 5 as well, has been offered a 3-month internship as an anchor on KENS 5. This is the 3rd Crown for Portland. She won the title of Miss Bexar County's Outstanding Teen 2016, Miss San Antonio's Outstanding Teen 2017 and proud to have won The Miss Bexar County 2018 title.  In her own words "The Miss Texas Organization pushes me outside my comfort zone, it requires me to implement ideas, beiefs, and goals that I may not otherwise think about or act upon. I am more involved, informed, and confident person because I have chosen to be a part of the Miss Texas.
